UHMW Polyethylene

UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)

Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, or UHMW, is a strong polyolefin thermoplastic that can be molded for use in a wide variety of applications. It offers the highest impact strength of all thermoplastics on the market today. In some forms it is 15 times more resistant to abrasion than carbon steel.

TYPES OF UHMW

Denver Rubber Company offers virgin UHMW and reprocessed UHMW.

Virgin UHMW

PROPERTIES

  • UHMN has many of the properties of HDPE, with some additional features.
  • Withstands concentrated acids, alkalis and corrosive chemical (except oxidizing acids)
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Self-lubricating
  • Machinable
  • Impact resistant
  • Low coefficient of friction (some forms are comparable to PTFE or Teflon®)
  • Improved abrasion resistance than PTFE

AVAILABLE GRADES

  • Bearing Grade,
  • Virgin
  • FDA
  • UV Resistant
  • High Temperature
  • Ceramic filled
  • Glass Filled,
  • Oil filled
  • Anti skid
  • Reprocessed
  • Flame retardant
  • Static Dissipative
  • Metal Detectable

UHMW Poly Reprocessed

Reprocessed UHMW is manufactured by blending virgin and recycled UHMW. It offers a range of benefits. Like virgin UHMW, reprocessed UHMW is durable, versatile and cost efficient. Its low coefficient of friction and lubricity make it ideal for applications subjected to high levels of friction.

PROPERTIES

  • FDA and USDA compliant
  • Easily machinable
  • Extremely versatile
  • Machinable
  • Impact resistant
  • Eco-friendly
  • Cost-effective
  • Durable
  • High heat resistance
  • High stress resistance

APPLICATIONS

Reprocessed UHMW ideal for applications where durability, wear resistance resistance to friction are necessary.

  • Non-food applications
  • Conveyer systems
  • Hoppers and silos
  • Material handling wear strips and components
  • Packaging
  • Docks and dock fenders
